RawKee
(pronounced Rocky - no relation to the boxer or the
squirrel) is an open source (LGPL) X3D plug-in designed
for use with AutoDesk's Maya line of 3D visualization
and animation software: Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited.
The purpose of RawKee is to export Maya's 3D data as
an X3D file with scripting as a complete X3D authoring
environment through RawKee's Interaction, Character,
and Animation editors.
Support
for Maya Versions:
- Maya
6.0 - 7.0 (WinXP/2000, Mac OSX, and Linux)
- Maya
4.5 - 5.0 (WinXP/2000)
Development
Coordination:
Develoment for RawKee is coordinated by the Archaeology
Technologies Laboratory (ATL)
of North Dakota State University (NDSU).
The ATL conducts research into the use of web-based
3D graphics for use in archaeology, historical, and
human heritage preservation. The ATL is currently incorporating
X3D into several of its projects. These projects include:
Virtual Archaeologist, Digital Archive Network for Anthropology
and World Heritage (DANA-WH),
and Native Dancer (ND).
AutoDesk
(Alias) Research Donation Program:
The RawKee plug-in project was begun under a grant awarded
to the ATL by AutoDesk
through its Research Donation Program (ARDP) and would
not have been possible without it. The ARDP is open
to academic institutions, and it seeks to "catalyze
experimentation and research in computer graphics, human
computer interaction, and compelling digital visual
experiences."
